1. Edge flames found both in hydrogen and hydrocarbon flames 2. Optical diagnostics used to qualitatively identify OH distributions 3. Qualitative confirmations for the DNS predictions of: • Existence of edge flame, • possibility to "switch" between edge and diffusion flame • hysteresis associated with this "switching" 4. Reasonably good quantitative agreement found between experimental flow velocities and numerical simulations of the bistability range for one particular H2 flame 5. The hysteresis found for extinction and re-ignition of these counter-flow diffusion flames is of interest for the modeling of turbulent combustion, specifically in the flamelet regime |
